Categories

Who Can You Sponsor?

Spouse, Common-law Partner or Conjugal Partner

A legally married spouse, common-law partner, or — where eligible — a conjugal partner.

Dependent Children

Eligible biological or adopted children who meet IRCC's definition of a dependent child.

Parents and Grandparents

Eligible parents and grandparents through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), subject to IRCC's intake process. The Super Visa is an alternative for extended temporary visits.

Other Eligible Relatives

Certain orphaned relatives and other eligible relatives in limited circumstances, subject to IRCC regulations.

Canadian status

Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person registered under the Canadian Indian Act (where applicable).

At least 18 years of age

You must be 18 or older to sponsor a family member.

Financial requirements & undertaking

Meet applicable financial requirements where required, and sign an undertaking to provide financial support for the applicable undertaking period.

Not in default

You must not be in default of a previous sponsorship undertaking or an immigration loan.

No prohibitions

You must not be in prison, charged with a serious offence, or under a removal order.
